What is wheel straightening?

Wheel straightening is a series of hydraulic presses on the wheel. These presses apply pressure to any flat spots on the inner circumference of the wheel. The flat areas will then, ideally, go back to the correct shape to have a safe, balanced wheel.

Wheel straightening can work in certain circumstances as an alternative to buying new wheels.

How do flat spots happen?

Flat spots happen with any sudden undulation in the road. These sudden changes to road surface can include hitting potholes, speed bumps or curbs. 

What does it not fix?

Wheel straightening doesn’t fix lateral bends from the wheel hub or any exterior lips/bends on the wheel face.

Is there another way to fix other bends?

We can hand-fix certain exterior lips in the metal. As always, if you’re unsure about the condition of your wheels, your best option would be to bring the wheel down to us in person. 

Our team will assess any issues in person and give you a more accurate idea of recommended services. 

Can my wheels be straightened and powder coated?

Yes!

If you’re in for an alloy wheel refurbishment service, we can straighten your wheels at the same time.

At MPC, we also offer crack welding, priced per split in the metal. Once again, if you’re unsure your wheels have cracks, bring them down to our workshop! Our staff will be able to quote you accurately after seeing the wheels.

Can I have just one wheel done?

There’s nothing more frustrating than having three pristine wheels and one scuffed one – or whatever combination you have! If you’ve kerbed your wheels on one side or hit a pothole funny, then this is more likely than having four damaged wheels. 

You absolutely can have just one wheel done – but once again, we’ll need to see the wheel to get a better idea of your needs. You can contact our customer service team for more advice.

The size of a tyre is printed onto the side of the tyre – on the area known as the sidewall. When looking for the size, you will see that it is made up of a series of numbers and letters. For example, a tyre with the code 205 / 55 R16 79T would have a tyre width of 205 millimetres, a sidewall height of 55% of the width, a 16-inch inner rim size and a speed rating of T.
